OAKLAND – A 66-year-old Stockton man was shot multiple times Wednesday morning during an attempted carjacking in the Eastlake District, authorities said.
The man was in stable condition at a hospital.
The shooting, which prompted a gunshot detection system alert, happened about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Third Avenue, near East 12th Street.

Police said the man was parked when an SUV pulled alongside him and two men with guns got out. The armed men attempted to pull the 66-year-old man out of his car and when he apparently resisted one of them shot him at least twice, police said.
The suspects then fled in the SUV driven by a third suspect north on Third Avenue and were gone when police arrived. The wounded man was able to drive himself to a hospital.
Police are trying to determine why he was in Oakland. Detailed descriptions of the three suspects were not released.
