The Saturday event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northern Branch of the Superior Court of San Mateo County, which is located on 1050 Mission Road east of El Camino Real in South San Francisco.

“Gun buyback events provide an anonymous option for community members to turn in firearms they no longer wish to keep,” Sheriff Christina Corpus stated in a press release. “This not only reduces the number of guns in circulation, but also helps prevent tragic accidents involving firearms, contributing to a safer community for all residents.”
The agencies are giving cash incentives ranging from $50 to $200 depending on the type of gun. Guns must be unloaded and stored in the trunk of its owner’s car. Free gun locks will also be distributed.
The event is organized by the sheriff’s office in conjunction with San Mateo County and Citizens for San Mateo County Gun Buyback, a local community group. Other participating law enforcement agencies include the Colma Police Department, Daly City Police Department, San Bruno Police Department and South San Francisco Police Department.
