OAKLAND — A Vallejo man has been charged with five felonies for allegedly trafficking a woman since last February, court records show.
Deshawn Johnson, 26, was charged with pandering, pimping, human trafficking, domestic violence and making criminal threats. He was held to answer on the charges at an April 19 preliminary hearing and is next due in court May 3 for an arraignment, records show.
Johnson is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $400,000 bail.
Police say Johnson encouraged the woman into prostitution to “solidify their relationship” and that she traveled around Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico and California, including the Bay Area, as a sex worker.
Johnson was arrested April 4 in Oakland, after he allegedly choked the woman unconscious and threatened “to kill her if he goes to jail,” an investigator wrote in court papers. Alameda County prosecutors filed charges against Johnson four days later.
