Proposed budget released
Milpitas City Manager Ned Thomas recently released the proposed budget for fiscal year 2024-25 in the amount of $248.4 million. The proposed budget is available for public review at https://www.milpitas.gov/DocumentCenter/View/5915/FINAL-Proposed-Operating-Budget_2024-2025_04242024-compressed. The city council was expected to discuss the document at a May 14 study session.
“The proposed budget is balanced and maintains the city’s financial reserves in accordance with council-approved policies,” reads a release from the city, adding that it “reflects optimism in the city’s financial future but also wariness of near-term economic uncertainty.”
Memorial Day ceremony
The City of Milpitas honors Milpitas residents who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces with a Memorial Day Ceremony May 27 at 9 a.m. in Veterans Plaza, located between city hall and the Milpitas Community Center.
The ceremony is hosted by members of the Milpitas Veterans Commission and includes local performers and organizations paying tribute. The event will be held rain or shine.
AAPI leaders honored
To celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, state Assemblymember Alex Lee and Santa Clara County Board of Education Trustee Victoria Chon honored seven community leaders at Jun Bistro in Milpitas on May 11.
Honorees included Camille Valerio of Milpitas, Judy Tokubo of Newark, Dr. Seema Sehgal and Jasmine Basrai of Fremont and Candice Tran, Krista Castillou and Thy Hope Luong of San Jose.
