OAKLAND — A 43-year-old man was able to run several blocks after he was shot multiple times in East Oakland late Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The man was in stable condition Wednesday at a hospital.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of East 21st Street and 27th Avenue.
The victim got into a verbal altercation with a man who pulled a gun, authorities said. As the victim began running away the gunman began shooting at him, hitting him at least twice.
The shooter then drove away in an SUV. An unoccupied parked vehicle was also hit by the gunfire
The wounded man was able to run to the 1900 block of Fruitvale Avenue, where he sought help; police came to the scene.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. A detailed description of the shooter has not been released.
