SAN JOSE — A big rig carrying thousands of pounds of strawberries wound up on its side early Wednesday, forcing the closure of a freeway transition ramp, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 2:55 a.m. and caused the closure of northbound U.S. Hwy 101 to northbound Interstate 880.
The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic at 3:30 a.m., and it remained in effect at 6 a.m. There was no time estimate for when the scene would be cleared.
According to the CHP, the semi carried approximately 40,000 pounds of strawberries.
Clean-up efforts required a big rig tow truck to removed the strawberry truck and another truck of workers who were working to remove the strawberries.
The CHP said there were no reports of injuries.
