18-year-old shot multiple times in East Oakland

Officers were dispatched to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1875 Highland Way around 7 a.m. Thursday for a report of vandalism, the Brentwood Police Department said in a news release.

Police said the officers arrived to find the following statements spray-painted on the church: “Avenge al Aqsa, LDS invest in genocide ur tithes takes lives, free congo sudan invest in, divest invest from exxon meta apple jp morgan amazon google.”

In addition, two windows were broken, but no one entered the church, police said.

Preliminary evidence suggested the vandalism happened overnight Wednesday, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
