Many would say it was a sign of troubles to come in their marriage.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck took two years, looking at more than 80 luxury properties in the Los Angeles area, before they finally settled on a marital home — an extravagant $60 million, 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom mansion in Beverly Hills.
They paid cash for the estate in May 2023, TMZ reported at the time. But just one year later, the mansion is back on the market, with TMZ reporting that the sale means the couple are “clearly heading down the path of divorce.”
TMZ reported over the weekend that Affleck and Lopez are “quietly” trying to sell their supposed dream home, which was supposed to represent the true love Lopez would like to say they found after they rekindled their storied romance from the early 2000s and married in 2022.
TMZ said Lopez and Affleck are asking $65 million for the 38,000-square-foot house, which comes with a cinema, wine room, spa and separate 5,000-square-foot “sports facility.” Fortunately for the estranged couple, the luxury housing market is booming, with wealthy home buyers not as concerned about mortgage rates above 7%, CNBC reported in April.
Still, TMZ said it’s expected that Lopez and Affleck could “lose millions” in the sale. They’ll have to cover the broker’s commission and the so-called “mansion tax” on luxury home sales in Los Angeles, TMZ said. They also invested “significant money” for home improvements, TMZ added.
Meanwhile, Affleck has already left the Beverly Hills mansion and is renting a smaller mansion in Brentwood for $100,000 a month — just two blocks from the home of his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, the Daily Mail said. Affleck and Garner share three children together: Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
Lopez, for her part, has been spotted house-hunting around Los Angeles in recent weeks, Entertainment Tonight reported. But the singer/actor/entrepreneur also apparently tried to convey that there’s still hope for the marriage, by being photographed twice on Saturday wearing her wedding ring, according to Entertainment Tonight and Page Six.
During the day, she was photographed out and about with her 16-year-old Emme, ET said. On Saturday evening, she sported “the big rock” while dining out with a friend, Page Six said. But she probably knew she’d be photographed because she chose to eat at celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica.
Lopez signaled a possible effort to work on her personal life by canceling her “This is Me … Now” national arena tour, which was supposed to kick off this month. Lopez told her fans she was “completely heartsick” about canceling the tour and “letting you down.” Reps for Live Nation said that Lopez was canceling for personal reasons, explaining she was “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends. ”Then again, some observers noted that the Live Nation statement didn’t mention that Lopez was taking time off to be with her husband.
