Crews in the air and on ground are responding to a grass fire burning in the East San Jose foothills near San Felipe and Las Animas Roads.
As of 9:50 a.m., the fire had burned about 15 acres. Crews — include a Cal Fire helicopter and six fire engines — had stopped forward progress, according to Cal Fire.
Earlier this week, the National Weather Service warned that dry, gusty winds over the weekend could boost fire danger concerns across the Bay Area over the weekend.
Two wet winters in a row helped grasses grow lush and tall — but those same tall grasses are now drying into tinder under the summer heat, becoming a concern for firefighters around the area.
