The 2024 BMW X6 M Competition High Performance SUV

What is an X6? The X6 is a midsize luxury SUV built in the Spartanburg, SC assembly plant, and sold worldwide by BMW. The BMW’s with the M Competition package includes an adaptive M suspension system, which has been extensively tuned for enhanced performance and handling, and features new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, along with reconfigured driving modes for comfort, sport and sport+ plus. The M vehicles are as close to being race track ready as possible right off the showroom floor.

The 2024 BMW X6 undergoes an extensive refresh that includes updated exterior styling, hybridized power trains, revised interiors, new tech features and renamed trim levels. The X6 now comes standard with the Adaptive M Suspension system, which offers adjustable firmness settings and automatic adaptation to road conditions. BMW offers a 2 axle air suspension system that brings automatic self leveling and speed dependent height settings that lower the SUV at speeds over 86 mph at all 4 corners.

To showcase this upgraded model, BMW sent me a 2024 X6 M Competition with a base window sticker price of $127,200 to test drive and review. The options on the test SUV are: The velvet metallic paint for $5,000, the Taruma full leather Meri interior for $3,500, the executive package for $3,100, the M compound brakes with red calipers for $650, the Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system for $3,400, and the M drivers package for $2,500. The manufactures suggested retail price (MSRP) , including the $995 destination charge is: $146,345. BMW offers the widest range of vehicles that cost over $100K.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $164,638. At just under $165,000, this 2024 BMW X6 M competition SUV is in the ultra luxury and high performance class of SUVs. It has 617 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 177 MPH. Fast, expensive, and luxurious, the X6 is an SUV that you will probably never park next to another one, at the Country Club, or at Home Depot.

Power comes from a 4.4L (liter) BMW M twin turbo V8 gas engine with eBoost and variable valve control with high precision direct injection. The engine has a 48 volt mild hybrid battery that adds stop and go to the mix that gets this supercar to the finish line.

The transmission is an 8 speed M sport automatic with drivelogic and launch control. It’s routed into an M tuned xDrive all wheel drive (AWD) traction control system, including dynamic stability control and dynamic traction control with high speed parameters.

The Executive package adds in heated and cooler cup holders, and massaging front and rear heated leather seats. Plus you get active distance control, a 3D surround view, a 48 volt mild hybrid system with stop and go, remote engine start, keyless entry, push button start, an M Sport exhaust system, 21″ front and 22″ rear M light staggered alloy wheels, M shadowline lights, M compound disc brakes with red painted calipers, M seat belts, a heated steering wheel, heated arm rests, carbon fiber trim, and 4 zone climate control.

As this is a high performance M Competition SUV the option list includes: active driving assist, parking assist, full LED exterior lighting with LED cornering lamps, the BMW connected pro package, wireless device charging, live cockpit pro with head up display, gesture controls, the M drivers package, extended shadowline trim, an anthracite alcantara headliner, SiriusXM 360 radio, and a Bowers & Wilkins premium Quantum Logic surround sound audio system with 20 perfect speakers and a 1475 watt amplifier.
