FREMONT — A woman’s husband conspired with his brother-in-law to catch, kidnap and beat her and another man they alleged she had an affair with, according to authorities and court documents.
The two suspects, a 44-year-old Fremont man who is said to be the woman’s husband and a 39-year-old Manteca man, were later arrested and charged with several felonies, including conspiracy to commit a crime, kidnapping, multiple counts of assault and criminal threats.
Court records show that on July 10, the two men followed the woman and her alleged lover to a medical career college parking lot in Fremont, boxed in their vehicle and smashed its windshield, then dragged the woman’s partner out of the car and repeatedly punched and kicked him for several minutes. The woman was also allegedly struck in the face, causing her to bleed from her nose, records say.
Police say video surveillance captured both the attack and kidnapping of the victims.
The two men then forced the victim’s into their car, after which they were driven against their will to the 39-year-old’s residence in Manteca. The victims’ were told the two men would “kill the victims and dispose of their bodies,” and one of them stole the male victim’s phone and wallet, police allege.
Authorities said the man witnessed his attackers make a stop to pick up a pistol from “an associate,” though the woman denied remembering the presence of a gun.
Once at the Manteca home, the victims were placed in separate rooms, where they were both allegedly beaten and threatened with death, according to police. The woman’s husband threatened the man with a kitchen knife, while his brother-in-law allegedly threatened him with a pistol in a downstairs room. The woman was slapped multiple times in an upstairs room, according to authorities.
The two suspects continued to beat and threaten the two victims for several hours before the man was taken back to Fremont and released somewhere in the Fremont hills, police said. The woman, police said, was left at the Manteca home and told she was “now going to be their slave.”
The man reported injuries to the back of his head and bruising all over his body. The woman reported a bleeding injury to her ear and soreness to her back.
She “did not provide many details of what occurred at the residence but said she was not hit. She appeared nervous and scared. She was visibly shaking” when interviewed by police, authorities said.
The brother-in-law denied he ever hit the victims while at his Manteca home and made “veiled threats, only to scare them,” according to court records.
The two men were booked into Santa Rita Jail following their arrest by surveillance teams in Manteca and San Ramon, with the Fremont man’s bail set at $655,000 and the Manteca man’s at $210,000. They are no longer in custody, according to the county’s online jail logs.
The men both pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing on Monday and are next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.
