Around 9:34 p.m., deputies responded to witness reports of a man with a gun in the parking lot of Vons at Alta Loma Square. The man then went to a Walgreens across the street, where he exchanged gunfire with deputies, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gloria Huerta said.
The suspect then entered the Sprouts at 6753 Carnelian St., when he was shot by deputies, she said.
The man was hospitalized and later died from his injuries.
Huerta said a deputy had what she described as a minor, superficial injury and was released from a hospital. She did not say how the deputy was injured.
