Grand theft: Between 1:50 a.m. and 1:55 a.m., someone stole an unattended backpack containing a laptop from the 14000 block of Big Basin Way for a loss valued at approximately $1,800.

Shoplifting: At 8 p.m., a person entered Safeway in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and stole merchandise valued at approximately $700. The suspect is known and at large.

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to file a fraudulent tax return. The victim contacted the IRS, and a stop was placed on the return. No financial loss was reported.

Residential burglary: At 9:56 p.m., two people entered a residence in the 12000 block of Arroyo de Arguello by breaking a window and stole a handgun valued at approximately $600.

Aug. 10

Mail theft: Between 8 a.m. on Aug. 9 and 9:33 a.m. on Aug. 10, someone stole mail from the mailboxes of two residences in the 12000 block of Via Roncole for a loss of about $10.
