Lafayette burglary suspect charged with stealing $40,000 worth of hair extensions

LAFAYETTE — A Concord man has been arrested and charged with stealing an estimated $40,000 worth of hair extensions from a local beauty salon, court records show.

The burglary occurred on the early morning of July 23, at a beauty store on the 3300 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette. Police say two suspects smashed through the front of the business and one of them loaded about 50 boxes of hair extensions into a truck.

The main burglar wore a mask, but police say they were able to identify him because a day earlier, he and his girlfriend showed up at the store to case the place. They say the woman he was with may have used a pseudonym and that the store owners remembered the pair acted suspiciously.

Police identified the suspect as a 45-year-old Concord resident. They raided his home and located an undisclosed amount of hair extensions, methamphetamine and seized his electronic devices, authorities said in court records.

The charges were filed Aug. 9. The suspect is being held in county jail without bail and is next due in court on Wednesday, records show.
