Preseason all-Bay Area News Group high school football 2024: Defensive backs

As part of our high school football coverage to get you ready for the 2024 season, we are rolling out all-Bay Area Area News Group preseason recognition.

Today’s position:

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Sefanaia Alatini, St. Francis, 6-3, 190, junior

Racked up 28 tackles as a sophomore. The three-star prospect per On3 holds offers from Arizona, BYU, Washington and Minnesota.

Savion Bandy, El Cerrito, 6-0, 185, junior

Totaled 67 tackles and four interceptions in 2023. Holds multiple offers, including from Arizona State, San Diego State and Washington State. 

Jermaine Barrett, Serra, 6-0, 170, senior

The Air Force commit was an all-league selection after posting 20 tackles and two interceptions.

Truly Bell, Pittsburg, 6-2, 175, junior

Had 23 tackles, six behind the line of scrimmage, and two interceptions last season. Holds offers from Arizona and Nevada. 

Teddy Chung, Serra, 6-0, 195, senior

Chung was an all-West Catholic Athletic League second-team safety in 2023. The three-star prospect is a Harvard commit. 

Rahsjon Duncan, McClymonds, 6-1, 175, junior

Duncan has offers from Arizona, Washington State and San Jose State. He also plays wide receiver. 

Markus Gosch, Aragon, 6-0, 175, senior

Gosch earned all-league first-team honors after posting 50 tackles and five interceptions. He also played running back, totaling 158 rushing yards. 

Jadyn Hudson, Pittsburg, 6-2, 175, senior

Hudson was an all-BANG selection in 2023 after totaling 53 tackles, six interceptions. A four-star UCLA commit, Hudson earned all-league first-team honors. 

Chris Joe, Liberty, 6-3, 185, senior

Joe received all-league first-team recognition after posting 45 tackles and two interceptions. He is currently a three-star recruit who holds offers from Hawaii and Nevada. 

Jayden Nicholas, De La Salle, 6-0, 155, junior

Earned all-East Bay Athletic League Mountain Division first-team honors last season after racking up 33 tackles. Nicholas holds offers from Arizona, Washington State and UNLV. 

Elliott Noble, Tennyson, 6-0, 185, senior

Nobel, a three-star prospect, was an all-league first-team selection last season. Committed to Fresno State.

Manuel Piche, Richmond, 5-7, 140, junior

Piche earned all-BANG honors in 2023 as one of Richmond’s top players. Earned all-league honors.

Robert Santiago, De La Salle, 6-2, 170, senior

Had 20 tackles and two interceptions last season on a stacked defense. Has tons of college interest. Considering offers from Oklahoma, Washington, Arizona, Oregon State, Miami, Cal and San Diego State, according to 247 Sports. 

Viliami Sekona, Mountain View, senior

The reigning Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division utility player of the year. Had 29 tackles, four interceptions and a fumble recovery last season. Also played quarterback and passed for 317 yards and three touchdowns. 

Elliot Spieker, Sacred Heart Prep, 6-3, 185, senior

Named the 2023 PAL Bay Division defensive back of the year after finishing with 35 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. 

Trisshon Wright, De La Salle, 6-0, 170, junior

Three-star prospect with an offer from UNLV, per 247 Sports. Had 30 tackles and two interceptions last season.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Those eligible for all-BANG honors come from leagues based predominantly in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The news organization’s high school sports staff chooses the players.
