Delayed licenses
mean more cyclists

Re: “Some in no rush to get licenses” (Page A1, Aug. 21).

I have prioritized active transportation my entire life. The results? I save approximately $10,000 a year by not driving. I have not missed a day of school or work due to injury or illness since 1996 — exercise and health seem to be related … shocking. No traffic jams or parking problems — ever. More space for everyone. Our roads last longer. And 425,000 pounds of toxic chemicals were not dumped into the local air supply. You win, I win.

More teens might choose this option if we (the able-bodied adults) set a better example. Driving the 4,500-pound SUV one mile to Starbucks to pick up the 16 oz. coffee may be legal and routine — but is it ethical and responsible?

Trump doesn’t care
about women, just votes

Found liable for sexual abuse and defamation of E. Jean Carroll by a jury of his peers, Donald Trump feels entitled to do and say whatever he wants to women.

He paid off a porn actress and a Playboy model for affairs so negative publicity wouldn’t derail his chances to be elected in 2016.

He claims responsibility for overturning Roe v Wade yet proposes no supporting programs for women forced to birth children against their will.

He has said women should be punished for having abortions.

Trump doesn’t respect or care about the well-being of women. He only cares about their votes that could keep him out of prison.

Keep roads safe;
don’t drink and drive

Labor Day is to honor America’s workers. They built our country and are America’s backbone.

According to FOX40 Sacramento, 1,064 DUI arrests were made in California on Labor Day weekend in 2023. 14 fatal crashes happened. In 2022, there were 937 DUI arrests with 27 fatal crashes.

When 16 in 1992, a drunken driver hit me. My hearing abilities are damaged, and I have problems talking and walking. For 30-plus years, I do my best daily.

Taking I-680 to go home after drinking at a big bash? My family and friends used that highway to visit me at Golden State Rehabilitation Hospital in San Ramon for six months in 1992.

Have a sober driver if drinking. It is not okay to drive just a block if you’re intoxicated or “a little buzzed.” Don’t drive drunk.

Offshore wind turbines
are environmental threat

In mid-July, limited reporting of a catastrophe occurred off the coast of Massachusetts at the Vineyard 1 project. A gigantic wind blade shattered offshore and littered the Atlantic coast with dangerous fragments of blade fillings containing shards of fiberglass.

The fragments of just this one blade forced the closing of beaches and now present a danger to whales, dolphins and other marine mammals, some on the Endangered Species list. These shards are not biodegradable and nanoparticles from the fiberglass could enter our food chain. Each blade can measure up to 350 feet long (a football field is 300 feet long) and each tower has three blades.

Supported by massive taxpayer dollars from the Biden-Harris administration, these towers are not going away. They are even putting these monstrosities in the waters off our coasts. Google the cost of materials, disposal and transporting of these ubiquitous “energy savers.”
