While recent city policies have been aimed at increasing downtown foot traffic, Vacaville isn’t looking for the four-legged fanged, and clawed kind. Downtown did receive such a visit recently, as a mountain lion took a moonlit stroll near Main Street.
On Aug. 17, a mountain lion ambled past security cameras near the area between West Street and Cernon Street near Main Street at about 1:50 a.m. The resident who owned the security camera did not notice the incident until recently, according to a police Facebook post.

If they spot a mountain lion, citizens are asked to pick up small children without bending over and walk away slowly without turning around. Those who see a mountain lion should also make loud noise while maintaining an escape route for the animal, and should not attempt to confront or capture the animal.
Officials say anyone who sees a mountain lion is urged to immediately contact the Vacaville Police Department at (707) 499–5200 and/or the Wildlife Management hotline at (916) 358–2917.
