It’s been a summer of great music in Los Gatos. Jazz on the Plazz and Music in the Park have brought many visitors to town, including VIPs from around the valley. Saratoga City Councilwoman Kookie Fitzsimmons attended a recent concert. “Jazz on the Plazz is so much fun. It’s a perfect way to spend a summer night!” she said.
Jazz on the Plazz wrapped its summer concert series on Aug. 21, but series organizers Los Gatos Music and Arts are planning a gala fundraiser for Sept. 22, with headliner Gunhild Carling set to blow multiple horns. https://jazzontheplazz.com
Patti van der Burg is hosting a garden party benefiting Peninsula Food Runners Sept. 8, 5-8 p.m., at her Los Gatos home. Food Runners use a large army of volunteers to recover food from grocery stores, corporate cafeterias and caterers, which they then deliver to homeless shelters and others in need throughout Santa Clara County. Tickets are $100 and are on sale until Sept. 2. It should be a worthy event, with live music from Lavender Fields, gourmet catering, fine wine and beer, and a silent auction and raffle. www.peninsulafoodrunners.org/garden-party-event
Los Gatos Thrives Foundation continues to work toward the goal of a community center for seniors. The foundation’s monthly Monday Morning Movies continue Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2 at the Cinelux Los Gatos Theatre, 9:45 a.m. -12:45 p.m. It’s great way to start the week with a good movie, good coffee and a chance to socialize and meet new friends. Open seating tickets are available at losgatosthrives.org or at the door. $10 includes movie, coffee and pastry.
Kiwanis Club of Los Gatos will hold its annual Los Gatos Art and Wine Fiesta Sept. 21-22. Expect great music by local bands, works by hundreds of artists and local vendors, and award-winning local wines. All proceeds from this event go back into the community to benefit local youth programs, including Student Leadership and Community Service Clubs, scholarships for at-risk teens, Special Games for special needs youth in Silicon Valley, and more. The town of Los Gatos is hosting a family movie night Sept. 20 at Oak Meadow Park for a screening of Disney’s “Wish”. Bring low-back chairs, blankets, flashlights and beverages. Movie-goers can bring in takeout from local restaurants, and movie snacks will be available from Billy Jones Railroad Snack Shack. Guests 21 and older can bring their own beer and wine. Children’s activities begin at 6:15 pm, followed at 7 p.m. by Pixar’s Short “Boundin.” Disney’s feature film rolls at 7:15 pm.
