In the single largest education investment in state history, California will distribute $500 million to school districts to replace old polluting school buses with zero-emission buses and purchase needed infrastructure.
As kids across the state head back to school, California plans to soon put an additional 1,000 new zero-emission school buses on the roads statewide, furthering the state’s lead in having the most clean buses in the nation,according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office. The Golden State currently has 1,100 clean school buses on California roads.

Public school districts, public charter schools, California Joint Power Authorities and state county offices of education can apply for funding through Sept. 30.
State officials say cleaner technology will lead to better public health outcomes for children and the communities where they live. Earlier this year, the Biden-Harris Administration announced more than $91 million to help California school districts make the switch to cleaner buses.
