OAKLAND — A man apparently racing another vehicle Thursday night on Interstate 580 in East Oakland was killed after colliding with two other vehicles and being ejected onto the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The name of the man has not been released pending notification of relatives. Authorities said he was a 49-year-old Oakland resident.
According to the CHP, the series of collisions happened about 11:27 p.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 580 west of 106th Avenue.
CHP Officer Adib Zeid said the man killed was driving a silver Mazda, that according to initial reports, was in a high-speed race with another silver vehicle.

Something caused the Mazda to collide with a black Dodge Charger, the CHP said. The Mazda left the roadway onto the shoulder, came back into the westbound lanes and struck a white Honda, causing the Mazda driver to be ejected onto the roadway before the Mazda came to a stop, the CHP said.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No one else was injured, the CHP said.
The drivers of the Charger and Honda remained on scene. The other vehicle involved in the initial race fled, the CHP said.
Three westbound lanes were closed for two hours while the CHP investigated..
