Not content with “liberating” Taco Tuesday, Taco Bell has announced that it got the date of National Taco Day shifted on the National Day Calendar so that it’s always on the first Tuesday in October.
The holiday was previously on Oct. 4, which falls on a Friday this year. Now it will be on Oct. 1.

Taco Bell holds rewards drops for its members on Tuesday, but in its news release announcing the date change it didn’t announce any deals for Oct. 1.
Last year, Taco Bell went on a crusade to get a trademark on Taco Tuesday canceled in all 50 states, declaring victory in October.

National days are not official like, say, beginning a term of the U.S. Supreme Court on the first Monday in October. But they’re frequently used as an excuse for sales and a way to publicize causes. The calendar’s website includes an online form that people can fill out if they want to create a national day.
The National Day Calendar got its start in 2013, is based in Mandan, N.D., and has a staff of 11-50 employees, according to its Linkedin page.
The National Day Calendar designates multiple holidays for each day of the year. It currently lists five other celebrations on Oct. 1: National Fire Pup Day, National Pumpkin Spice Day, National Green City Day, National Black Dog Day and National Hair Day.
