San Jose audiences can travel ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ in concert

If your spidey sense is tingling, it might be because the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga is coming to San Jose soon.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live in Concert” will land at the Center for the Performing Arts Oct. 9-10, when audiences will see the film presented on an HD screen, accompanied by a live performance of the film’s score by an orchestra, a scratch DJ on turntables, percussion and electronic instruments.

Emmy-winning composer Daniel Pemberton’s score was influenced by the ambient and techno music of the London rave scene in the ’90s. He also drew inspiration from the scratch DJs at the Blue Note Club in East London. He coupled these with heavy-drumming and punk guitars to create the film’s soundtrack, which features Future, Nas, Swae Lee, James Blake, Lil Wayne and Lil Uzi Vert, among other artists.

“’Across the Spider-Verse’ is probably the most exciting, groundbreaking and impactful score I’ve written,” Pemberton said in a release. “I’ve always believed that there should be no barriers to music, but it’s rare to get the opportunity that you get within the Spider-Verse.”

“Watching the film with the live band performing in a huge room of people is one of the most thrilling ways to experience it,” Pemberton said.
