The 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i M Sport Luxury Compact SUV

What is a X2? The X2 is a compact crossover SUV built in the Regensburg, Germany assembly plant and is sold worldwide by BMW. It enters its second generation with more presence, tech and space. The X2 is the more stylish sibling to the BMW X1, and what the German luxury automaker calls a Sports Activity Coupe. I call it a compact crossover SUV with 4 doors and a power opening rear hatch. Pricing starts at $42,000.

As this is a BMW, it’s a performance vehicle in a luxury body. All BMW’s are high performance (HP) vehicles, and as BMW says with the X2, less rules and more performance. The luxury part is always included in every car, crossover and SUV that they build.

To prove that point, this week BMW sent me a 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i M Sport SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this xDrive28i model is $42,000. The options on this M Sport edition are: the special metallic paint for $1,200, the driving assistance package for $1,700, the M Sport package for $2,500, the premium package for $4,000, the heated front seats and heated steering wheel for $550, and the remote start feature for $300. The manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP), minus the M Sport brakes credit of $500, plus the $995 destination fee, is: $52,745.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $59,338. For less than $60 Grand, you get an M Sport, high performance, luxury edition, compact SUV. Then you will understand that the BMW’s tagline, “The Ultimate Driving Machine”, is more than just a slogan. It’s a promise in all the vehicles they build; especially in the M Sport models.

Power for this X2 M Sport edition starts with a 2.0 liter BMW Twin Power dual turbo inline 4 cylinder 16 valve gas engine, with VVC variable valve control and high performance direct injection, that puts out 241 horsepower (HP), with a 0 to 60 MPH sprint in only 6.2 seconds. The 295 ft-lbs of torque runs thru a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters, routed into an xDrive all wheel drive (AWD) traction control system, with 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes and dynamic brake control.

Performance control, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, hill decent control, and cornering brake control all add up to a fantastic driving experience with total safety and road control at all times. This is why they say BMWs are the ultimate driving machines; which they really are at all price levels and on all trim packages.

The X2 M Sport package comes with a set of 19″ M Sport double spoke alloy wheels, a 7 speed dual clutch M Sport transmission, an adaptive suspension system, sport seats, an M Sport steering wheel, aluminum interior trim, shadow line exterior trim, an anthracite headliner, and M Sport exterior and interior trim with M Sport logos everywhere.

The Premium Package includes: exterior power folding side view mirrors, comfort access keyless entry, acoustic glass, a panorama sky roof, an auto dimming rear view mirror, an interior camera, parking assistant plus, a wireless device charging pad, live cockpit pro, a digital key, active parking distance control, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Harmon Kardon premium audio sound system with 12 specially placed speakers and a 360 watt amplifier, that creates a unique and captivating sound experience in any environment.
