The driver of the car pulled over briefly, then left the scene before stopping in Tracy to report the incident, the CHP said. Investigators arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to the agency.

The CHP said it does not know why the woman jumped out of the car. She was in the right front passenger seat in a 2018 Audi and rolled into the traffic lanes. Several other vehicles also hit her.

She died at the scene. Authorities did not identify her Monday morning, citing the state of the investigation.

The CHP is seeking the other drivers who hit the woman after she jumped into the roadway, as well as any witnesses who may have seen her jump. They encouraged anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact their Dublin office at 925-828-0466.
