2025 Lucid Air Pure takes over as our most efficient EV

The Environmental Protection Agency’s fueleconomy.gov website ranks various types of light duty vehicles based on their fuel economy, and the 2025 Lucid Air Pure is now ranked highest among fully electric vehicles. The coveted spot at the top of the EV efficiency ranking was formerly held by Hyundai’s 2024 Ioniq 6 long range rear-wheel drive, which boasts a combined MPGe rating of 140 and a stellar city rating of 153. The frugal luxury sedan from Lucid gets 149 in the city and 142 on the highway for an all-time high combined MPGe rating of 146, edging out the Ioniq 6 as the most efficient passenger vehicle sold in the United States.

The Lucid Air is available in four trim packages that offer a wide assortment of capabilities. The Air model with the gold medal efficiency rating is the entry-level Air Pure rear-wheel drive with 19-inch wheels. Priced around $70,000, the Air Pure’s 84-kWh battery pack delivers an impressive driving range of 420 miles, and its 430-horsepower motor can launch the vehicle from zero to sixty in 4.3 seconds. For about $9,000 more, the 620-horsepower Air Touring all-wheel drive with 19-inch wheels provides 406 miles of range and earns an impressive combined MPGe rating of 132.Wealthier consumers looking for incomparable range can spring for the 819-horsepower Air Grand Touring XR all-wheel drive. Fitted with 19-inch wheels, the $110,000 ultra-luxury sedan gets the most from its 118kWh battery pack, venturing 512 miles on a single charge while earning a combined MPGe rating of 128. If money is no object, the $250,000, three-motor, 1,234 horsepower Lucid Air Sapphire all-wheel drive reaches 60 mph in less than two seconds, earns a respectable combined MPGe rating of 105, and offers a range of 427 miles. All Air models are designed to handle 350-kilowatt DC fast chargers and are capable of acquiring 200 miles of range in 12-17 minutes.

Lucid is rightfully proud that its 2025 Air Pure delivers 420 miles of range with an 84 kWh battery pack, achieving an unprecedented efficiency milestone of 5 miles per kilowatt-hour. For the EV owner, superior fuel economy means less money spent on electricity, faster charging to acquire the same amount of range, and the multiple advantages of a smaller, lighter battery pack. For the planet, efficient EVs reduce upstream greenhouse gas emissions, conserve raw materials needed to manufacture EV batteries, relieve pressure to upgrade electrical grids and build new charging infrastructure, and conserve electricity as we struggle to produce it cleanly.

All of the Lucid Air models rely on superior aerodynamics and state-of-the-art powertrain components to achieve their extraordinary mileage ratings. The Air’s sleek exterior styling yields a very low drag coefficient of 0.197, minimizing wind resistance that saps fuel economy. Lucid has also engineered its own ultra-efficient electric motors that are light, compact, and extremely powerful, pairing them with advanced battery packs that have high energy density. The final result is a spacious EV that combines world-class performance with unmatched efficiency. The same winning combination is sure to enhance the appeal of Lucid’s upcoming Gravity SUV.

Well-off consumers have numerous luxury EVs to choose from, and some will ignore the benefits of high MPGe ratings. Others with strong environmental concerns are likely to emulate the EPA, awarding the 2025 Lucid Air Pure their highest rank.
