Officers also detained a person who they identified as the shooter, police said in a statement. They did not announce an arrest.

Callers reported the shooting about 10:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Elm Street. Officers arrived to find the person down. Police said the person they detained also was there.

A medical helicopter airlifted the shooting victim to a trauma center. Authorities did not have an immediate update on the person’s condition.

Police said they were investigating the motive for the shooting and other circumstances surrounding it.

Authorities locked down the Summit K2 Public Schools immediately after the shooting, then lifted it after they secured the scene.
