ROSE GARDEN>>Playful People Productions is staging a teen/adult production of “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” Oct. 26-Nov. 3 at the Historic Hoover Theatre, 1635 Park Ave. The coming-of-age musical, with book and lyrics by Tom MacRae and score by Dan Gillespie Sells, was inspired by the British television documentary “Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.” The show is recommended for ages 12 and up due to subject matter and language.
Directed by Lysander Abadia, the musical follows Jamie, a young man who wants to wear a dress to prom. His mother supports him, although sometimes in ways that prove problematic. His friend Pritti, who is bullied at school for being Muslim, encourages him to do what makes him happy. The show is double cast.
