Britney Spears reunites with son Jayden ahead of final child support payment

Britney Spears and her estranged younger son, Jayden, have reportedly reconciled ahead of the popstar’s final child support payment later this week.

The 42-year-old “Stronger” singer is “happy” after recently reuniting with the 18-year-old, who’s been spending time with Spears at her Los Angeles home following his move to Hawaii last year, an insider told People on Monday.

As Jayden turned 18 in September, this Friday will mark his mom’s last $10,000 twice-monthly child support payment to ex-husband Kevin Federline, sources with direct knowledge told TMZ.

News of the reunion comes following years of estrangement between Spears and the two sons she shares with Federline, including 19-year-old Sean.

In spring 2023, she “consented” to allow both of the teens to move to Hawaii with the 46-year-old former backup dancer.

Spears and Federline had a whirlwind romance before they wed in September 2004, welcoming Sean a year later and Jayden in September 2006. Their divorce was finalized the following summer.

Initially, the former couple agreed that Spears’ child support payments would end on Jayden’s 18th birthday or once he graduated high school, whichever came later, TMZ reported on his birthday in September. He graduated early from his Hawaii high school this month, hence the end of the payments.

Though she previously shelled out $20,000 a month in child support, Spears’ payments increased to $40,000 a month in 2018, in part because the boys lived full-time with Federline and required more expenses than they did as kids. Once Sean turned 18, Spears reportedly resumed $20,000 per month payments.

Insiders this summer told TMZ that Spears decided to halve the payments without notifying her ex. Federline’s camp reportedly told Spears a judge would order her to pay far more than $10,000, were the issue to end up in court. Ultimately, Spears reportedly agreed to make the $20,000 payments through this month.

At the time, the TMZ also reported that Spears and her sons were no longer communicating only via text and had graduated to phone calls.

The recent reconciliation is a welcome change for Spears, who in May settled her third divorce, months after Sam Asghari filed to end their 14-month marriage.
