Laguna Beach home, oceanfront and Bali-inspired, lists for $23 million

An oceanfront, Bali-inspired estate in Laguna Beach built for surfwear entrepreneur Joel Cooper is on the market for $22.9 million.

Nestled within a lush garden oasis on almost a half-acre in guard-gated Irvine Cove, the 6,400-square-foot residence has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and tiered levels that extend through sliding glass walls to patios and verandas for indoor-outdoor flow. A one-bedroom, one-bathroom guesthouse with a living area can double as a gym.

Cooper, the CEO of Lost International who also co-founded Gotcha, infused his home with authentic Balinese style, sourcing materials during shopping excursions to Bali with his designer.

“Once you step into the house, you immediately feel that you’re in another part of the world,” he remarked in a home tour video with HouzzTV in 2017.

As visitors enter through the gates, the pathway to the front door leads them through a structure adorned with ornate Balinese teak and over a koi and turtle pond.

Natural light filters inside through Italian imported glass doors and windows. Views of the ocean and tropical gardens are visible throughout the house, including the kitchen, dining room, sunken living room, family room and second-story office that can double as a second primary suite.

A raised outdoor bridge separates the office from the other upstairs bedrooms.

The designated primary suite stands out with its zen-inspired bathroom, complete with an oversized soaking tub, and a wraparound terrace that offers varying perspectives of the surroundings.

Cooper told HouzzTV that “on a clear day, you can see Catalina from our bed.”

The state of California owns the land next door, guaranteeing new construction will never obstruct the view.

Outdoor amenities feature a zero-edge pool with waterfalls, raised spa and cabana with a kitchen, bar and fireplace.

There’s also a kid’s club house on stilts.

The sales price includes access to the community’s private beach, pickleball and tennis courts and golf carts.

Josh and Matt Altman of The Altman Brothers at Douglas Elliman hold the listing.

The property has been listed for sale and lease intermittently for the past several years.
