Ellen DeGeneres silent on Trump rumors but denies flood ravaged UK home

Ellen DeGeneres has tried to set one part of the record straight on her recent move from Montecito to the United Kingdom, but she has yet to address reports that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, fled the United States because they are “very disillusioned” about Donald Trump’s election to a second term as president.

In an Instagram post Sunday, DeGeneres denied reports that her new 43-acre property in the Cotswolds region flooded as Storm Bert brought days of torrential rain and chaos to many parts of the U.K., The Independent reported. The former day-time talk show host shared a selfie with de Rossi as they stood in the sun in an idyllic English country setting, presumably on or near their new property.

In a note, DeGeneres paid tribute to their 20-year relationship, the love they share and the places they “get to travel and explore the world together in the next 20 years.” The comedian also said they are “looking forward to our first snowy Christmas,” presumably in their new Cotswolds farmhouse.

Then DeGeneres added: “P.S. for those of you concerned, our UK farmhouse did NOT flood.”

Over the weekend, the Daily Mail reported that DeGeneres and de Rossi’s new home, about a two-hour drive southwest of London, had flooded due to Storm Bert. During the storm, a tributary of the River Thames broke its banks near DeGeneres’s and de Rossi’s new mansion, the Daily Mail said.

“Ellen DeGeneres’s new life in the quaint English countryside has gone dramatically wrong — after her dream home was swamped by astonishing flooding just days after she moved in,” the pro-Trump Daily Mail reported, with more than a tinge of schadenfreude.

“But rather than enjoying a pastoral retreat” after their “protest” of Trump’s election victory, she and her wife “have been left at the mercy of raging floods which have engulfed their new multi-million pound mansion,” the Mail also reported.

“The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years,” a local resident told the Daily Mail about the aftermath of the storm. The Daily Mail moreover published photos which purported to show DeGeneres’s property left in a swamp of flood water.

But DeGeneres is rubbishing the Daily Mail’s report and announced that she and de Rossi are looking forward to enjoying a white Christmas in their new farmhouse.

However, DeGeneres didn’t add a post-script saying, for example, that she and de Rossi did not “get the hell” out of America because of Trump’s win.

Multiple outlets, notably The Wrap and TMZ, broke the news last month that DeGeneres and de Rossi had settled into a new home in the Cotswolds, a region of rolling hills and picturesque villages.

TMZ also reported that the couple bought their home in the Cotswolds prior to the election, but Trump’s Nov. 5 victory over Kamala Harris left them “disillusioned” about life in America under an incoming Republican administration. DeGeneres, a vocal supporter of Vice President Harris, and her actor wife became determined to “get the hell out,” a source told TMZ.

The Wrap also said that Trump’s victory was a “catalyst” for the couple’s move and said they “plan to never return to the United States.”

Just two weeks into Trump’s transition, The Wrap and other outlets also reported that DeGeneres was moving to divest herself of some properties in her extensive Southern California real estate portfolio. Notably, there was her prime residence, a sprawling Montecito property that she bought in 2019, The Wrap reported. The Wrap said the estate is being offered off market, though it could be  listed more broadly soon.

Then again, The Wrap also reported that DeGeneres is in need of a “fresh start” for her life and her career. The comedian has been open about being “kicked out of show business” in her recent standup show, after she faced reports in 2022 of presiding over toxic workplace behavior at her syndicated “Ellen” show.
