When counting concluded Dec. 3 for the last uncalled congressional race in the nation, California saw a third House district flipped to the Democrats.

With a lead of 187 votes out of more than 210,000 cast, Democratic challenger Adam Gray took District 13 from single-term Republican incumbent John Duarte.
The map above shows the breakdown of the delegation, pending certification on Dec. 13 — red indicates Republican winners, blue Democratic. The dark blue zones are the three that flipped in the November 2024 election: District 13; District 27, won by George Whitesides; and District 45, won by Derek Tran.
The state’s new delegation is 43 Democrats and nine Republicans. The previous one, elected in 2022, was 40 Democrats, 12 Republicans, and in 2020, before redistricting eliminated one seat, it was 42 Democrats and 11 Republicans.
The seven California House districts in which no incumbent was running were all won by a candidate of the previous representative’s party:
12: Lateefah Simon (D), replacing Barbara Lee
16: Sam Liccardo (D), replacing Anna Eshoo
20: Vince Fong (R), replacing Kevin McCarthy
29: Luz Rivas (D), replacing Tony Cárdenas
30: Laura Friedman (D), replacing Adam Schiff
31: Gil Cisneros (D), replacing Grace Napolitano
47: Dave Min (D), replacing Katie Porter
Nationwide, Republicans won 220 seats in the House of Representatives and Democrats 215. This map shows the results in all U.S. districts.
