The person driving the car called 911 after hitting the person while driving west on Ygnacio Valley Road toward the entrances for Interstate 680 and state Highway 24, according to officials. The collision happened just east of Oak Grove Road about 6:25 a.m.

Police did not make an arrest. Authorities did not identify the pedestrian right away, pending notification of relatives.

Ygnacio Valley Road is a major bypass route for drivers in eastern Contra Costa County who want to avoid the westbound direction of Highway 4 and Highway 242. Police issued an advisory for drivers to avoid the area.

The scene was cleared by 9 a.m.

It was unclear immediately if the crash was related to the stormy weather that lasted a bit longer than anticipated and left wet roads Friday morning.
