Police: Fremont man impersonating teen on social media accused of sexually assaulting girl

Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man on allegations he sexually assaulted a teen in Novato.

The suspect contacted the victim through social media and pretended to be 15 years old, police said Monday. The girl contacted police on Friday and said the man committed the crime while they were in a parked vehicle.

Investigators identified the suspect and found the vehicle. The suspect saw the officers and fled in the vehicle. Novato police alerted other law enforcement agencies to look for him, and a Marin County sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle about 15 minutes later on southbound Highway 101 near Lucas Valley Road.

Officers arrested the suspect after questioning him at the Novato police station.

Omar Shirkhan, 20, of Fremont was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of raping a drugged victim, having unlawful intercourse with a minor, arranging to meet a minor for a sexual offense, obstructing police and driving with a suspended license.

Shirkhan remained in custody Monday in lieu of $500,000 bail.
