Saratoga Library hosts lion dance for Lunar New Year

The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is looking for volunteers to help register new voters who are also new American citizens.

The league will partner with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters on Jan. 22 to register new voters after their naturalization ceremonies at the Heritage Theater in Campell. Volunteers are needed to help cover two shifts, from 8:45 a.m.-noon and 1:15-4 p.m.

Email Pam at voterservice@lwvcs.org to sign up and indicate a shift preference. The voter registration will most likely take place outside the theater.

The league will host similar volunteer opportunities on June 25 and Nov. 19.

Library play spaces

The Santa Clara County Library District is creating interactive children’s spaces in all of its libraries, including the Campbell branch. Storybook SCCLD play spaces are designed to promote the five early learning principles of Every Child Ready to Read: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.

The first play space is due to be installed at the Saratoga Library on Jan. 20, with installation at the Campbell Library set for summer or fall. To keep patrons safe during construction, the children’s room will be closed to the public during installation at each library. Children’s materials will be made available in other parts of the library.

Each library’s play space will reflect something special about that community. At Campbell Library, TowerBot, an animated version of the Campbell Water Tower, will guide young users through Storybook SCCLD.
