OAKLAND — A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in East Oakland, authorities said.
The man’s name was not immediately released pending notification of his family. Police did not say where the man lived.

Officers responding to a gunshot detection system alert found the man shot just after 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 4200 block of Bancroft Avenue. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A motive for the shooting was under investigation. No arrests were announced and no suspect information was released by police.
The killing is the 10th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated nine homicides in the city.
