SAN JOSE — Five San Jose residents have been arrested on suspicion of participating in a gang-motivated shooting where a stray round struck a person’s bed while they slept, according to a San Jose police press release.
San Jose police responded to a weapons disturbance on the 1300 block of Dubert Lane around 10 a.m. on July 21 last year, when four men threatened another man with various weapons, including a machete, a knife and a gun, authorities said. The suspects fled in a car after another resident arrived, but about five minutes later, the suspects came back and shot at the victim’s residence multiple times.
One round entered a second victim’s residence, narrowly missing their head and hitting their mattress as they slept, police said.
Investigating police officers identified the suspect vehicle and located it around Story Road and King Road. The driver, Victor Gonzalez, was determined to be one of the suspects responsible for the incident and was arrested and booked into jail later that day.
The suspects are Ruben Gonzalez, 34; Victor Gonzalez, 37; Francisco Mercado, 39; Corrina Namuleg, 38; and Timothy Nelson, 18. All suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of numerous felonies. Ruben Gonzalez and Victor Gonzalez were being held without bail.

San Jose police said in a press release that the incident was believed to be gang-motivated. Ruben Gonzalez and Mercado were identified as suspects and arrest and search warrants were obtained for them and their homes.
San Jose Police Department Gang Investigations Unit detectives and the Covert Response Unit arrested Ruben Gonzalez on Oct. 2, 2024. On Jan. 15, Mercado was arrested and police served the search warrants.
Namuleg and Nelson were seen removing a bag from the residence, police said; officers detained them and found illegal firearms in the bag. The two suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy and possession of illegal firearms.
During the searches, police recovered eight firearms, both registered and unregistered. three guns were privately manufactured. They also took one machete and multiple rounds of ammunition.
