Can Rising Stars save the NBA All-Star Game?
Much has changed since the game was played at the Oakland Arena 25 years ago, let alone when it was held at the Cow Palace in 1967.
But before Warriors star Steph Curry, making his franchise-record 11th appearance, and the other stars take the court at Chase Center on Sunday evening for the new-look All-Star Game format we’ve got a busy Saturday.
The events we’ll be following today include:
– State of the NBA from commissioner Adam Silver at 4 p.m. Last year in Indianapolis Silver used the news conference to address a variety of topics, including officiating and potential changes to the All-Star Game format which were implemented this year.
All-Star Game eve concludes at Chase Center with the skills challenge, 3-point contest and slam dunk contest. TNT and TruTv are broadcasting the event, which begins at 5 p.m. with the skills challenge. The dunk contest concludes the night’s festivities.
The Warriors will be well-represented in the competitions: Draymond Green and Moses Moody are set to compete in the skills challenge and Buddy Hield will shoot in the 3-point contest. There was hope Curry and Walnut Creek native Sabrina Ionescu might reprise some sort of a showdown similar to their 3-point battle at last year’s All-Star Game, but it couldn’t be worked out.
