Joann store liquidation sales: What to know

Liquidation sales began Saturday, Feb. 15, at the hundreds of Joann fabric and craft stores that are scheduled to close.

Reports on social media from employees and customers indicate that sales vary widely from store to store, and staff members don’t have information on when individual stores will close for good.

When will the liquidation sales end?

There is no definite date, and not all stores will close at the same time. A corporate memo posted on Reddit said sales “could continue for several months.”

How deep are the discounts?

Shoppers were reporting that on the first weekend of liquidation everything was discounted 20% or more. Some items, such as Christmas merchandise, were discounted by as much as 60%.

Will sales get better as the liquidation goes on?

The expectation is that the discounts will be raised as stock diminishes, but some stores may just shut down and send their remaining inventory to another outlet.

Is fabric still being sold by the yard?

Yes, although long waits were reported for cutting.

Are gift cards being honored?

The memo on Reddit indicated that gift cards will be honored until the end of February in stores. Already the cards are not being accepted online.

Are all Bay Area stores being closed?

One of the 14 is not on the liquidation list: 4950 Almaden Expy., just north of Highway 85 in San Jose.
