EL CERRITO — BART shut down the El Cerrito Plaza Station and closed service between North Berkeley and Richmond on Tuesday morning after a train apparently hit a person, officials said.

The transit agency announced the closure at 8:37 a.m. BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said somebody went onto the track at El Cerrito Plaza and “a collision with a train may have occurred.”
No other information on the person was available immediately.
The El Cerrito Plaza station remained closed past 9 a.m, and trains were turned back at North Berkeley.
AC Transit honored BART fares on lines No. 72 (Richmond to North Berkeley), No. 79 (El Cerrito Plaza to Berkeley) and No. 7 (El Cerrito Del Norte to Berkeley).
