SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks executed a stunning trade Friday, reportedly sending winger Fabian Zetterlund, minor league forward Tristen Robins and a fourth round draft pick to the Ottawa Senators for forwards Zach Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and a 2025 second round draft pick.
Both Sportsnet and the Ottawa Sun reported the details of the trade.
Zetterlund, who turns 26 in August, was believed to be an important piece to the Sharks’ future. Following the Sharks’ game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, the right-shot Zetterlund had 17 goals and 36 points this season.
Zetterlund is a pending restricted free agent in need of a new contract. It was not immediately clear how those negotiations were going, or how close the two sides were to a new agreement.
The 6-foot-4 Ostapchuk, a second-round pick by the Senators in 2021, is in his second full season as a professional. This year, he had 11 points in 15 games with Belleville of the AHL and four points in 43 games with the Senators, averaging just 9:20 in ice time.
