Saratoga High drama department takes 3rd at play festival

Play’s the thing

Saratoga High School’s drama department won third place for its original production “A Stop in Time” at the Northern California Play Festival in January. Senior Ryan Backhus, who wrote and directed the play, was named “Best Director.”

“This achievement is a testament to the creativity, dedication and talent of our students and staff, as well as the ongoing support of our Theater Boosters,” Superintendent Heath Rocha said in a release. “Congratulations to Ryan Backhus and the entire cast, crew, and staff who were a part of ‘A Stop in Time.’ We are incredibly proud of your success.”

Montalvo tea party

Attendees can enjoy an array of teas, sandwiches and baked goods on March 23 at Montalvo Arts Center’s annual Mad Hatter’s Tea

Tea times are at 1 p.m., 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.. Tickets are available for $70 at montalvoarts.org/events.

Hanami at Hakone

Hakone Estate and Gardens is open for Hanami from Thursday, March 20 through Friday, April 11, when visitors can check out the gardens’ cherry blossoms after sunset.

Upcoming library closure

The Saratoga Library will be closed on Monday, March 31, in recognition of Cesar Chavez Day. The library will reopen on Tuesday, April 1.
