Two Bay Area men wanted for retail theft prompts Highway 101 chase

Novato police arrested a theft suspect and an alleged accomplice after a chase into San Rafael.

The incident happened at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday at a cosmetics store at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, police Lt. Sophia Winter said. Police saw a potential suspect get into a Lexus, and he refused to pull over.

Police chased the Lexus to Highway 101 and south. The pursuit ended near the Manuel T. Freitas Parkway exit in Terra Linda after the Lexus apparently sustained damage, Winter said.

Police detained the driver and a passenger and determined that the suspect stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise.

Jason Xavier Ware, 22, of Richmond was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, conspiracy, evading police and wearing a mask for unlawful purposes. Ware, who has prior theft convictions, is being held without a bail amount.

Imereta Faalogoifo, 22, of Daly City was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy but released pending further investigation. Faalogoifo could not be reached for comment.
