State maps out Cupertino’s fire hazard areas

Mapping fire hazards

Cupertino is seeking public comment on its Local Response Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Zone map.

To more accurately reflect the zones in California that are susceptible to wildfire, Cal Fire has published revised LRA maps. These maps identify properties in moderate, high and very high fire hazard severity zones. Each designation is determined based on consistent statewide criteria, including factors such as fuel loading, slope, fire weather, and other relevant considerations. The City of Cupertino is required to adopt an ordinance consistent with these designations.
