SAN JOSE — For one night at least, all is well with Bay FC.
The Bay Area’s second-year NWSL team beat Racing Louisville FC 2-0 at PayPal Park behind first-half goals from San Jose native Joelle Anderson and former Cal star Karlie Lema. Anderson scored in the 12th minute, and Lema’s tally came in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half.
The win improved Bay FC’s record to 1-0-1 for the young season. Bay FC has been playing while the NWSL conducts an active investigation into its coaching staff, but it hasn’t seemed to impact them much thus far on the field.
Lema’s goal was the highlight of the match, a stunning strike from just outside the 18-yard box after attaining possession of the ball deep within Bay FC’s own half of the field after a Louisville free kick. Lema dribbled with pace down the right side, then picked the top right corner to deposit her insurance goal.
