Brandon Franco, a 22-year-old firefighter with the Alameda County Fire Department, sustained several burns on multiple parts of his body while fighting the grass fire on June 1. The GoFundMe was organized by The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 55, a union that represents Alameda County firefighters, on behalf of Franco’s wife, Krystealle Franco.
The GoFundMe page stated that Franco’s burns required surgery and additional procedures, but he is expected to make a full recovery. The donations accrued by the page will be used to support Franco’s ranch during his recovery, including covering essential supplies and making sure the animals and property are taken care of.
The organizers had set a goal to raise $30,000. As of Monday evening, more than 450 people and organizations had donated more than $45,000. The largest donation came from the Livermore Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation at $1,500.
The union was not immediately available for a comment. Franco’s GoFundMe page can be found here.
