Officers were called to East Hillsdale Boulevard and South Norfolk Street around 4:45 p.m. for reports of a shooting, the San Mateo Police Department said in an advisory.

No suspect or victim was found at the scene, but police determined the suspect had run into a nearby apartment. The victim, meanwhile, was found in San Carlos and taken to a hospital for medical care.

Officers pinpointed the suspect’s location and negotiated his surrender, police said.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place while police investigated the shooting.

Reports of another shooting victim being found in Millbrae were not related to the shooting in San Mateo, police said.

Police said more details about the incident will be released Friday.
