The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line AWD Compact SUV

What is a Tiguan? A Tiguan is a compact crossover SUV built in the Puebla, Mexico, VW assembly plant, and sold in North America by Volkswagen. The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is a rarity in the compact SUV class because it offers 3 rows of seating, and it comes in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line. Each trim includes the level of options that you want, with no options to add, except picking a color. This makes it easier to buy a Tiguan that’s right in your price range, knowing that the model you’re buying has exactly what you want, with no extra options that you have to pay for.

This week Volkswagen sent me a 2024 Tiguan SEL to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this top tier model R-Line all wheel drive (AWD) SUV is $38,505. The only option on the test SUV is the exterior metallic paint package for $395. The manufactures suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $1,350 destination charge is: $40,250.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $45,281. At just over $45 Grand, this Tiguan R-Line SUV purchase price falls under the average sales transaction price of $48,800, so you will have over $3,000 to spend to take the family on a summer vacation, see all the state parks and still have some money leftover for a trip to Lake Tahoe.

Lift the hood on the 2024 Tiguan, and you’ll find VW’s 2.0 liter 16 valve dual over head cam (DOHC) turbocharged 4 cylinder gas engine tuned for 184 horsepower (HP ) and 221 pound-feet of torque, bolted to an 8 speed automatic transmission, routed into a 4Motion AWD system, with active traction control and driving mode select. This drive line delivers 22 MPG city, 29 MPG highway, and 24 MPG in combined driving. The greenhouse gas rating is a 5, and the smog rating is a 7, both out of 10. These are all good numbers for an AWD compact crossover SUV with seating for 7.

The VW Tiguan SEL R-Line edition comes with a nice set of 20 inch alloy wheels with all season tires, a Titan leather interior for a sophisticated feel, and ventilated front seats. You also get a larger 10.25 inch infotainment system that gives you a bigger center stack digital display screen for your navigation system, music playlists and a Fender audio system. The R-Line drops the seating from 7 to 5 and adds a unique R-Line design with special exterior and interior features. It runs and drives with a sporty attitude.

The SEL R-Line interior has: a dual zone climate control system, a leather wrapped multi function and heated steering wheel, a tilt and telescoping steering column, 2nd row 40/20/40 split folding, sliding and reclining rear seat, stainless steel pedal caps, an auto dimming rear view mirror, front row USB data ports with USB rear charging ports, front foot well lights, reading lamps, ambient lighting, a cargo cover, a cargo area 12 volt power port, illuminated R-Line front door scuff plates and advanced air bag protection.

Volkswagen prides itself on offering the best and highest grade technology and convenience packages that start with: engine braking assist, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, automatic post collision braking, intelligent crash response, rear view cameras with overhead display, front and rear parking distance control, dynamic road sign display, high beam control, hill hold control, hill decent control, travel assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, emergency assist, forward emergency braking assist, blind spot monitors, rear traffic alert, and pedestrian monitoring. It has everything you need to make your every day drive the safest it can be.

Volkswagen’s best selling vehicle in the United States is the Tiguan compact crossover SUV. This SUV generally has a reasonably long life span and it varies from model to model.  On average, a Volkswagen Tiguan can last between 200,000 and 250,000 miles, given proper care and maintenance. The warranty is for 4 years / 50,000 miles, and it comes with a free scheduled maintenance program for 2 years / 20,000 miles.

So, do yourself a favor and call, click or visit your local Volkswagen dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the new 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line AWD SUV. And remember that the base price for a new Tiguan starts at only $28,505. Volkswagen – Drive Bigger.
