A couple robbed of their four-month-old puppy at gunpoint last week have been reunited with their pet by the San Jose Police Department.

The husband and wife were confronted at 8 p.m. Wednesday night by a man who held a gun to them and demanded their Shih Tzu puppy, which the husband had recently gifted to his wife, the department wrote on X.

Officers arrived on the scene and conducted a thorough investigation and ultimately identified the suspect’s vehicle. They found the man’s car and stopped him. Inside, they found a firearm and two loaded magazines.

Officers then went to the suspect’s residence, where they found two AR-style rifles, as well as the stolen puppy, which has since been returned safe to his owners.

Shih Tzus are some of the most expensive dog breeds. Puppies bought from a breeder go for between $1,100 and $2,800, according to iheartdogs.com.
