Man found shot dead near Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND — A man found dead in East Oakland on Thursday evening had suffered at least one gunshot wound and major trauma to his body, authorities said.

The man’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his family. He is believed to have been in his 40s, authorities said.

The man was found dead about 10:22 p.m. Thursday in the 5900 block of Coliseum Way, a commercial area near railroad tracks.

Authorities said he had been shot and also had major trauma to his body.

An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.

A motive for the killing is under investigation. No arrests have been announced and no suspect information has been released.

The death is the 53rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the second to have occurred Thursday. A woman was fatally shot about 2 a.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of International Boulevard. Last year at this time, police had investigated 59 homicides in the city.
