San Jose vehicle-pedestrian collision causes 27th traffic fatality

SAN JOSE — San Jose’s 27th traffic fatality of 2024 occurred near the city’s downtown district when a person was struck while lying in a roadway, police reported Tuesday.

The fatal accident was reported on the morning of July 28th, the San Jose Police Department reported.

Police responded at 6:18 a.m. on Sunday to a report of a vehicle collision that involved a pedestrian, police officers stated.

“A 2019 white Toyota Highlander, occupied by an adult male driver, was exiting an apartment complex driveway at a slow rate of speed heading northbound onto South 11th Street,” police reported.

South 11th Street traffic moves in a one-way northbound direction in that location.

“An adult male pedestrian was lying in the roadway when the Toyota SUV drove over him,” San Jose police stated.

The pedestrian who was lying in the roadway was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased.

“The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said.

The incident marks the 27th fatal collision and 27th traffic death of 2024, according to the San Jose Police Department.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased pedestrian.
